PARTY: Tropical Waste w/ DJ Earl, Kode9, Cõvco, Rkss, Iydes b2b Seb
The fifteenth Tropical Waste party will reveal what happens when Chicago collides with London. Joining us in the basement will be DJ Earl, accompanied by footwork dancers Sirr Tmo and Dre, as well as Kode9, Cõvco and RKSS. Spoiler alert: sparks will fly, sweat will drip…
DJ EARL with footwork dancers SIRR TMO and DRE (TEKLIFE)
Chicago-born, New York-based DJ Earl is one of Teklife’s young guns. A key figure among a cadre of artists taking footwork into the future, he’s just made a major mark on the genre with the release of his latest album ‘Open Your Eyes’. Earl comes through with two dancers, Sirr Tmo and Dre, who’ll show the floor some real Windy City energy.
Kode9 has been at the vanguard of underground dance music since the turn of the millennium and has in recent years become an avid supporter of the footwork movement. He has direct links with Teklife, having released DJ Rashad’s seminal ‘Double Cup’ album and the ‘Next Life’ compilation via Hyperdub, and riffed on the genre throughout his 2015 LP ‘Nothing’. Get ready for a very intimate and highly-charged set from the boss.
Cõvco fortnightly NTS show comes loaded with frenetic club music and out-there experimentalism, with recent guests including Purple Tape Pedigree’s Eaves, Halcyon Veil’s City and Polish Juke’s Comoc. One of London’s fiercest new DJs, she takes control of the booth at Tropical Waste for the second time this year. Don’t sleep.
RKSS (WHERE TO NOW? / ALIEN JAMS)
rkss’ recent album ‘Top Charted’ pushes computer music to illogical extremes, containing 14 excursions that’ll backflip your mind, body and soul. A forthcoming EP for Alien Jams – released on the day of this party – moves into darker but no less weird territory. And their monthly show on Resonance is a place where disruptive electronic music bumps up alongside hits from the club. Be prepared for all of this and more when rkss lands in the basement.
